Background: Maui Land & Pineapple is a publicly-traded land holding and operating company dedicated to agriculture and resort operations. They are the only pineapple company in the U.S that still has a functioning cannery. A $160 million operation, Maui Land needed to become compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley 404. Challenge: SOX 404 legislation requires technical resources, expertise and hard work to meet deadlines. Maui Land had a small finance staff that was already at 100% capacity and needed an "outside firm" to get the work done and meet all necessary requirements of compliance. They turned to other resources but did not find a firm that could satisfactorily meet the deadlines or fee structure they needed. Solution: Maui Land contacted AMLLP and asked them to complete a pilot project to prove their capability by documenting one process cycle. AMLLP proved they were capable and knowledgeable, impressing Maui Land with the depth of experienced professionals on the job. Maui Land engaged AMLLP for the entire SOX 404 project. Result: "The responsiveness of the AMLLP team's high-level involvement from the management and the 'can-do' attitude allowed Maui Land to meet the SOX deadlines and compliance issues," said Fred Rickert, Vice President and Treasurer. Besides meeting the deadlines, the work resulted in improvement of IT processes, a more secure network and a better plan to manage System Development Life Cycles (SDLC). Maui Land has subsequently hired AMLLP for future projects and is pleased with the work and fee structure a regional firm offers.
