Matt Armanino: COO, Consulting Partner

Q and A

Q. What role do you play at the firm?

I’m fortunate in that I get to play multiple roles. In addition to being a partner within our Consulting Group, I also serve as the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. In this capacity, I am engaged in strategic planning, budgeting, managing the firm’s administrative functions and working closely with our Managing Partner to help support the firm’s overall growth.

Q. Make a prediction. Describe your vision of the business future.

In the future, I think there will be increasing levels of consolidation in our industry, which remains fairly fragmented today. In this environment, the winners will be those professional service providers with deep industry expertise and the ability to truly deliver value-added solutions to their clients, as opposed to discrete, stand-alone services. Being a mile wide and an inch deep isn’t going to cut it. I think Armanino, with our reputation for being a trusted business advisor to our clients, is positioned to do extremely well in this environment.

Q. What do you enjoy most about working at the firm?

I love our entrepreneurial culture that encourages great people to find creative ways to help our clients. I really enjoy being able to work with so many good friends, including my brother. It is terrific to work at a firm that has a terrific history and such a strong, growth-oriented vision for its future.

Q. Describe your work style.

I am fast-paced, collaborative and focused on team building. I work hard to motivate people to think big and work towards common goals and objectives, rather than individual ones.

Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your business?

Ron Codd, who I was fortunate enough to work with when he was the CFO at PeopleSoft. I admired Ron for his intelligence and ability to convince others of his ideas through well-articulated, critical reasoning.

Q. Who is (or was) the most influential person in your life?

I’ve been lucky to have been influenced by many important people in my life, not the least of which includes my wife, family members and close friends. In particular, my father has been extremely influential. I admire him for his unwavering commitment to his family, his work ethic, his generosity and his strong sense of loyalty. I also admire my mother for her creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and joie de vivre.
