The Great Give

“Be the Change You Want to See In the World” – Mahatma Ghandi
That is one of my favorite quotes. I do attempt to live by it as best I can and I was excited to hear Armanino McKenna felt the same way when it announced we would have an opportunity to contribute by volunteering. Instead of just *talking* about volunteering or contributing to the community – Armanino McKenna is doing it! Not just by suggesting we volunteer on our own, they are doing this on a grand scale!
Facts:
• One May 29th, 2009 the whole firm will close its offices for a day to spend time in the local community.
• 300 employees will be at their choice of one of many projects throughout the Bay Area that were suggested by fellow employees and organized by the firm.
• We are have our choice of local projects to volunteer at with tasks like gardening, maintenance, teaching, spending time with senior citizens – just to name a few.
Are individuals enough? – of course, enough of them are!
Thinking in a larger scale - what if our employers actually took a step up to the “volunteering plate” so to speak, and actually did something more than what an individual could? Can you imagine what reach and effect that would have?
Think about it – 300 employees – converging on local projects that deserve volunteer assistance – on a work day, with everything set up by the firm. Now that is what I would call serving others in a way that will truly be felt by the communities!
