Hear from employees why life inside the largest California-based CPA firm is far from business as usual. Read our blogs, listen to our podcasts, check out our videos, and discover what you should come to expect from an employer.
This week the AMLLP blog-cam meets up with Leslie Jordan, Audit Senior, to discuss the friendships she’s made through working at the firm and even mentions a trip to New Orleans with her coworkers! Listen to Leslie as she mentions, “I definitely enjoy the people I work with.”
“Be the Change You Want to See In the World” – Mahatma Ghandi
That is one of my favorite quotes. I do attempt to live by it as best I can and I was excited to hear Armanino McKenna felt the same way when it announced we would have an opportunity to contribute by volunteering. Instead of just *talking* about volunteering or contributing to the community – Armanino McKenna is doing it! Not just by suggesting we volunteer on our own, they are doing this on a grand scale!
Facts:
• One May 29th, 2009 the whole firm will close its offices for a day to spend time in the local community.
• 300 employees will be at their choice of one of many projects throughout the Bay Area that were suggested by fellow employees and organized by the firm.
• We are have our choice of local projects to volunteer at with tasks like gardening, maintenance, teaching, spending time with senior citizens – just to name a few.
Are individuals enough? – of course, enough of them are!
Thinking in a larger scale - what if our employers actually took a step up to the “volunteering plate” so to speak, and actually did something more than what an individual could? Can you imagine what reach and effect that would have?
Think about it – 300 employees – converging on local projects that deserve volunteer assistance – on a work day, with everything set up by the firm. Now that is what I would call serving others in a way that will truly be felt by the communities!
In Part One of an interview with Jennifer Zocchi, we learn about the importance of Life/Work balance. One of the most unique things about working at Armanino McKenna is “the attitude toward the Work/Life balance —the understanding that people have families, that they have kids and that they don’t want to spend all of their time just at work… A lot of firms say that they promote that but then when you actually get into that work environment, it doesn’t actually feel like that.”
Last quarter, our trusty blog cam caught up with Dean Quiambao, Audit Manager, to get his take on being an auditor at Armanino McKenna. Dean shared his unique point-of-view —having previously worked in Tax— about how the importance of communication plays a major role in working with clients from the Audit side of things. Check out the video below where Dean talks about clients, communication, finding a niche and teaching staff here at AMLLP.
